How it Started.
Spearheaded by State Representative, Danielle Friel Otten, the Empower PA PAC is a newly formed group of bold community organizers, elected officials, professional leaders in our fields, and concerned citizens who are committed to championing people-centered causes and candidates in Chester County. The Empower PA PAC launched on October 2, 2021. We began raising support to elect and protect school board candidates who are committed to student-centered values, public health and safety, and upholding a commitment to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in our schools.
Meet our Board.
Our Why.
The Downingtown Area School District and West Chester Area School District made national news in the summer of 2021 when opponents of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program protested the initiative at recent school board meetings. While opponents of DEI allege that it promotes Critical Race Theory and creates division, in truth DEI exists to remedy current diversity issues in the district by teaching our students to approach diversity with kindness, compassion, and empathy.
We decided we needed organize to protect our school children, teachers and staff in Chester County from the impact of misinformation and conspiracy theories. We simply cannot stand by and allow the health, safety, and education of our children to be shaped by the extreme views we've seen in our own school board meetings throughout Chester County.
We are proud of the work we did to help shape these two school boards, ensuring student and community centered board members hold the majority. In an effort to continue the work of building capacity and scaling the strategies that work to elect and protect good leaders who go to work every day with the best interests of our neighbors at the core of their work, we are continuing our effort through 2022 to make recommendations and support key state legislative races and our state committee election.
